Distractions, Distractions

The first week of the year I found what my niche was and I began to write 800-word drafts in the topic area to see if it was something I enjoyed. From the results it is. However, during the process of writing the drafts, I learned that I distract myself a lot and not only does it waste time but it also puts a burden on my creative roll and causes me to forget what it is I am trying to say or create.

Now that I have recognized how distracted I am I’ve decided to make a change in my life. The following list below are the things I will do to keep myself from being distracted when writing:I will use the apps that block all distractions on my computer.

  • Use the apps that block all distractions on my computer.
  • Turn my phone off and leave it in a separate room
  • Do one thing at a time, and not try to do multiple tasks

I realized when I am writing I look at my phone a lot to check Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and also play a game. Although checking social media accounts only take a couple of second at most  five minutes, that is five minute I can use to write a paragraph. The game took away an hour  out of my work because I was determined to get to the next level, instead of trying to finish my draft.

Once my phone is almost dead or on the charger I lose focus on my computer as well. I am not checking social media sites, but I am watching different videos and reading random articles that are not relevant to the topic I am writing on. I know this is going to be a difficult challenge because I have been distracted for so long, but with help I can and will conquer this.
